JURIED SHOW 2015

The ArtWorks Oakville 16th Annual Juried Show was held in the Gallery at Queen Elizabeth Park Community & Cultural Centre. The exhibit features an assortment of beautiful art pieces in varying style, subject matter and medium from local artists. It is always an amazing display of emerging talent with art to be enjoyed in the gallery, and most art works were available for sale.

Artists come from Toronto – Hamilton and beyond in hopes of being selected for this esteemed exhibition. Of 113 entries, 39 elite artists were chosen. We love the collection of amazing talent selected by jurors Kendra Ainsworth and Steve Rose for the exhibit in the incredible QEPCCC Gallery.

Jurors’ Comments and Awards

Overall strong offering with a great mix of medium investigation and approaches to the execution of artworks, which sparked enjoyable conversation. The jurors were faced with some difficult decisions in, but excellent photographic documentation of the work made the jurying process very concise, and the final selection of works represents a carefully deliberated selection. The jurors were pleased to be able to include both traditional and contemporary forms and subjects.

1st Place: Renee Makino “Room with a View” Acrylic
Strong use of diagonal composition, with simplified shapes and good use of negative space and value contrast. The juror’s appreciated the contrast of architectural and natural elements.

2nd Place: Sue Archibald  “Sunday Morning and the Black Birds Sing” Acrylic
Excellent design and visual transition. The jurors appreciated the animated and playful approach to a traditional subject. Good use of qualities of light and texture.

3rd Place: Lora Moore-Kakaletris “Plenty of Fish in the Sea” Photo
Technically well executed with tremendous visual interest and movement. The jurors were intrigued by the sense of narrative and poignant, almost allegorical imagery.

Honourable Mention: Rhoda Payne  “Maine Scape“ Acrylic
Wonderful use of gestural mark-making, and a vivacious use of energetic colour. Interesting play of abstract elements against the suggestion of figure and ground.

A special THANK YOU to the 2015 Jurors!
